Job Description

The Role:

The People and Capability Manager delivers practical, values-aligned HR services across the employee lifecycle and takes responsibility for strengthening SASS’s workforce practices, people systems and processes.

Reporting to the CEO, you will provide expert HR and industrial relations advice to the CEO and managers, manage HR operations and compliance, and contribute to initiatives that strengthen staff capability, engagement, wellbeing and organisational culture.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, development, performance management and employee exits
  • Providing timely HR and industrial relations advice to the CEO and managers
  • Supporting compliance with employment legislation, the SASS Enterprise Agreement and organisational policies
  • Managing workers compensation and return-to-work processes
  • Maintaining and improving HR systems, records and processes, including managing employee data in ELMO
  • Coordinating workforce learning and development, performance appraisal and worker-screening compliance
  • Supporting workforce attraction, development, retention, resourcing and succession planning
  • Developing initiatives that strengthen organisational culture, staff engagement and wellbeing
  • Providing workforce information and reports to support organisational decision-making

Desired Skills and Experience

You will be a capable and hands-on HR professional who can move confidently between operational HR responsibilities and broader workforce initiatives. You will bring strong professional judgement, emotional intelligence and the ability to build collaborative and respectful working relationships.

Ideally you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources
  • At least two years’ experience in a hands-on HR generalist or business partner role
  • Knowledge of employment legislation, industrial awards and contemporary HR practices
  • Experience supporting managers with employee and industrial relations matters
  • Experience using HR information systems, ideally including ELMO
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and sensitive workforce matters with professionalism and integrity
